Birla Carbon Announces Release of Its Fourth Sustainability Report 2016

Atlanta/Mumbai, June 22, 2016

Birla Carbon, one of the world’s largest carbon black producers, announced the release of its fourth Sustainability Report. The report titled, ‘Maximizing our Potential through Sustainable Operational Excellence’, focusses on Birla Carbon’s Sustainable Operational Excellence (SOE) strategy driving sustainable business growth. The report is again a digital only release with no copies printed for distribution or circulation. The report is available at www.sustainability.birlacarbon.com/.

Sharing his thoughts at the release of the report, Dr Santrupt Misra, Chief Executive Officer, Birla Carbon said, “The importance that Birla Carbon places on sustainability is signified by its presence as an integral part of our stated vision, which is ‘to be the most respected, dynamic and sustainable global carbon black business.’ Sustainability is no longer just about minimizing our risks – it is about maximizing our potential.” He further added, “Birla Carbon was the first business in the Aditya Birla Group to establish the role of Chief Sustainability Officer, who drives the sustainability agenda at Birla Carbon. Similarly, Birla Carbon has been the first in its sector to passionately formulate a sustainability agenda.”

The report is divided into six key focus areas, namely; Governance and Ethics, Product Responsibility, Environment, Customers and Suppliers, People, and Communities. Each of these areas elaborates Birla Carbon’s journey on how it is achieving SOE.

The report is also in accordance with the international standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) G4 sustainability reporting guidelines at comprehensive level with comparisons and goals for each reporting segment.
