A tire without carbon black would last less than 5,000 miles. According to major carbon black manufacturer Birla Carbon, the size of the carbon black particles, as well as that of the fused-together “aggregates,” and overall shape, affects things like a rubber’s abrasion resistance, tensile strength, blackness, conductivity, and weather ability in tires.
