On June 3, 2022, a large representation of the Pontejos Football Club visited the Birla Carbon Spain facility and thanked the team for their support to the club, which has been at the risk of closing due to Covid-19 since 2020.

Jacinto Zarca, Plant Head, Birla Carbon Spain, said, “We are glad to be able to support the football club, and this support of Birla Carbon Spain is part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) where, among other causes, the facility also supports the base sport of the area of influence. BCS is glad to provide the much-needed boost to this cause and contribute towards the rebuilding and consolidation of the football club.”

The club visited the facility just before the pandemic and was able to consolidate a project that went from a single team to a four-three football team and a futsal team with 58 children. It has been an achievement for the club, as, since last year, they have managed to almost double the number of players (32 players in 2021). This was possible because of the efforts by the people responsible for CF Pontejos and a large group of parents who have been constantly involved with their children’s sports practice and the club’s survival for the past 50+ years.
