Birla Carbon Spain inaugurated a school library
Birla Carbon Spain sponsored and inaugurated a unique school library, designed by children, in the town of Cantabria
To promote education and learning, Birla Carbon Spain (BCS) sponsored and inaugurated, on June 19, 2019, a special library at the Marina de Cudeyo, a school in the town of Cantabria. The library, shaped in the form of a labyrinth, was ideated and designed by the school children with the assistance of architects for its execution and final installation.
This project had its beginning two years back, when the founder of ‘La Aldea del Talento’ (Talent Village), approached BCS and discussed the project. BCS, without hesitation, supported and offered to sponsor it as well. The process began with the collaboration of the educational community, institutions, companies, entities and professionals along with 350 children from the 6th grade of the school who were instrumental in creating a new experience that involved deigning libraries at five centres, one of which was the Marina de Cudeyo school. It was an end-to-end process that involved ideation, meeting with architects and designers which ultimately led to the final execution and installation of the library at the school.
Sharing his thoughts on this unique initiative, John Davidson, President, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Birla Carbon shared, “It is a proud moment for us at Birla Carbon that our team at BCS has sponsored such a noble initiative. Thanks to the design of this library, the students of the school have developed their imagination around the world of reading and learning. This is a positive step in inculcating the belief among children that an idea can turn into a reality when accompanied by creativity, passion, dedication and team work. Congratulations to the team in BCS for their dedicated work towards the community.”
Jacinto Zarca, General Manager, BCS further shared how, “BCS has always worked hand in hand with the educational community of this town and this unique library is an example of us sharing our strength, which is not only our purpose but words we live by. We believe in contributing towards the development of the citizens of the community for a better tomorrow and an initiative like this that involves children, education and learning, we feel that our ‘purpose’ has been solved.”
The library is designed in the shape of a labyrinth with a secret entrance door, glass walls and the exit in the form of a slide. The aim behind this project was to make the children believe that dreams can become a reality. An experience like this would give them confidence, inculcate the habit of team work, exploration and enhance their creativity.
