Birla Carbon Spain selected for CEOE-CEPYME’s education program

On April 8, 2024, the General Manager of Birla Carbon Spain participated in a talk at a secondary school of the municipality as part of the IBDS program (Base Industry of Sustainable Development) that aims to contribute to the knowledge and add value towards the importance of the industry for the society of Cantabria.

The students of IES Ricardo Bernardo de Solares got to learn about the industrial activity of Birla Carbon Spain, where he highlighted the business purpose and explained the characteristics of the carbon black manufactured in the Spain facility along with some of the most relevant projects in the field of sustainability that the Spain team is currently working on.

The session by the GM to the high school students is part of the ’Sustainable Development Base Program,’ organized by the business confederation CEOE-CEPYME Cantabria, with the aim of extolling examples of industries in the region that are strongly committed to their immediate environment, R&D (Research & Development) and sustainability domains. The program aims to raise awareness among secondary school students about the industry world and the possibilities it offers them when they choose a university career, from the point of view that working in an industry can lead to quality employment in which they can develop their careers and be agents of innovation and promoters of sustainability programs.

Sessions like these bring the industry closer to an audience of young boys and girls, sowing the seeds for the development of STEM vocations in girls as well so that the industry outside becomes increasingly diverse, inclusive, and welcoming towards them.

Birla Carbon is proud that the Spain plant has been selected for this program as an example of a sustainable industry and has had the opportunity to introduce the business purpose to the young audience.

About the program –

  • It provides transparency and participation to contribute to the neighbors, especially the young people who appreciate and value the possibility of working in those industries.
  • It works towards improving the image of the industries in Cantabria, thus supporting the industrial sector and recovering its prestige within the local communities and the neighbors.
  • It is aimed at attracting young talent to meet the increasingly complex needs of industrial companies, particularly in the case of the women workforce, to enable greater entry of girls into education and technical professions.
