Birla Carbon India’s Gummidipoondi unit completes 2 decades since inception; Birla Carbon’s Long Service Recognition Ceremony and Aon’s Best Employer Award to ABG Carnival; all celebrated with fervor on July 24^th, 2018. Birla Carbon India’s Gummidipoondi unit completed 20 years on July 24th, 2018. Commissioned in 1998 with an annual capacity of 35 kMT, after multiple rounds of expansion and debottlenecking, the unit’s capacity currently stands at 160 kMT. Looking back at the least 20 years, the unit has witnessed some remarkable accomplishments and milestones – recognitions and awards for TPM, Deming, Quality Management Certifications, ABBE, HR Excellence, Sustainability and CSR, among others.

Celebrating this milestone and many others, the day commenced with the Birla Carbon Flag Hoisting at the plant, which was conducted by the unit head, Ajit Rajagopalan along with the employees who were part of the first day in the year 1998. Some of them were emotional as they shared their experience and the 20 years journey with Birla Carbon Gummidipoondi unit. Mr. SS Rathi, Regional President, South Asia and Middle East, Birla Carbon shared how, “The Gummidipoondi unit has stood the test of times and has emerged strong. We, at Birla Carbon, take immense pride in this unit and hope that it continues to shine not just for the next quarter but for the next quarter century.”

As the day progressed, the township auditorium was set for celebrations with the employees and their families. The evening began with the Aditya Vandana being played along with the lighting of the lamp by Mr. SS Rathi, Regional President, South Asia and Middle East; along with unit heads from Gummidipoondi, Patalganga and Renukoot, Mr. Ajit Rajagopalan, Mr. J Jena and Mr. JPN Singh. Regional functional heads of the SAME region; Mr. Ravi Mishra, Mr. Nikunj Mundra and Mr. YK Goyal, also graced the occasion. This was followed by a presentation by the regional functional head, HR on the 20 years of the Gummidipoondi unit.

The evening did not end here as soon after, the Long Service Awards were presented to those employees who had completed more than 25 years of tenure with the Aditya Birla Group. The value of their committed service was emphasized by our Regional Head – HR, Mr. Ravi Mishra. Mrs. & Mr. SS Rathi honored the awardees with a Memento and a gift voucher. 17 employees received the Long Service Award – 7 from the Gummidipoondi Unit and 10 from the South Asia & Middle East Regional Office.

Finally, recognizing the values and the long history of the parent company, The Aditya Birla Group, the functional head, HR showcased a presentation on Awesome@ABG and the HR journey. This was done in order to celebrate the Aditya Birla Group being announced as the Best Employer by Aon. All the employees wore ‘I WORK WITH THE BEST’ t-shirts and participated in the cake cutting ceremony. The entire day saw the past and present being recognized and honored and gave way to a better future.
